Not only the Jewish Quarter of Paris but one of the city’s oldest (and most central) neighborhoods, Le Marais is dotted with architectural and historical gems spanning many eras. This includes 17th-century mansions, the Temple du Marais, The National Museum of Modern Art in The Centre Pompidou, the Place des Vosges—one of the city’s oldest and most beautiful squares—and, of course, the Bastille in the south. The area’s art scene also includes The Musée Picasso and the Théâtre Dejazet, as well as countless smaller galleries showcasing various disciplines and time periods. Food-wise, the pedestrian street Rue de Rosiers is a particularly delectable detour for a dose of authentic Jewish cuisine and fashion shops, while the nightlife—including Le Marais’s gay scene—finds itself around Rue Vieille du Temple, with a wave of on-trend cocktail and wine bars, clubs, and restaurants that are often open on Sundays.
