Architecture Arkan Zeytinoglu

Local architect Arkan Zeytinoglu converted a 1950s student hostel into an upscale boutique hotel.

To succeed he had to maintain the building’s structure while also giving it a new face for the times. Zeytinoglu’s solution was to install pop-out windows on the building’s front—his version of the classical decorative feature found on many of the area’s surrounding historical facades—attracting the attention of passersby with “floating cubes”.

Conran & Partners have produced cozy, well-thought-out rooms grounded in their hometown of Vienna.

The iconic English design house chose to outfit the rooms with modern Viennese design classics by Wittmann and Friedrich Kiesler, where clean lines and simple, elegant forms rule. But attention to the classics was not done at the expense of comfort. Here, for example, welcoming window seats provide a calm perch from which to take in the city.
